The Young Women's Christian Association of Kansas City, Kansas was formed in 1903 and affiliated with the national organization in 1906. The Yates Branch of the Kansas City, Kansas YWCA was organized March 4, 1913 at a meeting in the Mason Memorial Episcopal Church. Yates Branch was named for Mrs. Josephine Yates, a prominent African-American clubwoman.
